First-Time, First-Year Students

What is Summer Bridge?

Summer Bridge is an exclusive hybrid summer orientation program for EOP, DREAM Center, Seawolf Scholars and Native American identified, first-time, first-year students transitioning from high school to Sonoma State University. As a Summer Bridge participant, you get to connect with other incoming first-time, first-year EOP/DREAM Center/SWS/NAI students, faculty, and professional staff. Participants will receive advising and mentoring and the chance to familiarize themselves with SSU and the surrounding communities.

What is the purpose of Summer Bridge?

The primary focus of Summer Bridge is to give students "a taste" of university life, connect them to campus resources, provide them with opportunities to create supportive relationships, have the opportunity to take college courses that will earn them college-bearing units, and register for their fall courses.

When does Summer Bridge begin and what is the time commitment for Summer Bridge?

  • Summer Bridge is a 3-week hybrid program with two weeks of in-person programming at Sonoma State and one week of remote/online work.
    • Part I: The Summer Bridge residential in-person component will be Sunday, June 16 - Saturday, June 29, 2024
    • Part II: The Summer Bridge remote component will be Monday, July 1 - Friday, July 5, 2024
  • All students who participate in Summer Bridge will take two University Studies courses (UNIV 100A: Reading & Writing - 1 unit course and UNIV 100B: Quantitative Reasoning - 2 unit course) during the 3-week program.

Am I required to attend Summer Bridge?

Attendance and completion of the full Summer Bridge program is mandatory of all incoming first-time, first-year EOP students.

Please note: Upon successfully completing Summer Bridge, students will receive 3-units of college credit, a $1,000 Academic Resource Grant, a MacBook, and parking permit for the academic year. There is also a $1,000 housing scholarship for students who live on campus.

How much does it cost to attend Summer Bridge?
